Productinformation
Les Champlots is a relatively elevated Premier Cru vineyard on a south-south-west oriented spur, close to the village of Gamay in the east of Saint-Aubin.
The vineyard is almost 11ha in size and lies above the En Montceau section. Grapes from this section might also bear the Champlots name but not vice versa.
So Moingeon's Champlots comes from the vineyards north of En Montceau. To the south and east, the vineyard borders Sous Roche Dumay (1er cru), Sur Gamay (1er cru) and La Chateneniere 1er cru).
Located as it is, Les Champlots thus benefits from the slightly higher altitude of the western slopes of Mont-Rachet and the well-drained limestone soils that characterise the Côte d'Or's terroir. While they do not get the softer morning sunshine of their prestigious neighbours on the other side of the hill, they do enjoy the full length of the afternoon sun, an important ripening factor in Burgundy's continental climate.
This sets this wine apart from the other 1er cru's in the portfolio. The coolness due to the altitude combined with the favourable orientation makes this elegant wine with a perfect balance of acidity, salinity and a minerality that adds complexity to the fruit.
