Les Pucelles is one of Puligny-Montrachet's finest Premier Cru vineyards, located on the southern side of the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard is surrounded by very well-known names. To the south the grand cru sites: Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. Further up the slope to the west by 1er cru site Les Caillerets and to the north Clavaillon.
Within Pucelles also falls the vineyard Clos de Meix 1.6ha, which may be listed as a separate title as well as under the better-known name Pucelles.
Including Clos de Meix, Pucelles covers 6.7ha at the bottom of the Côte d'Or slope. As a result, the slope is less steep than higher vineyards. However, there is still good exposure to morning sunlight that ensures good ripening.
The soils are well-drained, calcareous and heat absorbing this heat is returned to the vines. This can lead to less acidity so sometimes Pucelles are described as less acidic or sweeter. In addition, the wines are more elegant than most with aromatic complexity and nutty flavours.
