Les Folatières, also known as Es Folatières (after one of its lieu-dits), is a well-regarded premier cru vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet.
It lies north of the grand crus Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. Right in the middle of the slope surrounded by the other 1er crus Clavaillon and Champ Gain. This vineyard is 17.6ha with east orientation, the flat land on the eastern side of the Côte d'Or provides exposure to the mild morning sun. This gives the grapes time to develop flavour and complexity during the growing season, with cooler influences at night ensuring balanced acidity. The rocky marl limestone soil provides a nice mineral touch. The wines are typically Puligny: concentrated, mineral with a nutty overtone of ripe fruit.
Paul Pernot gets his fruit from different plots and is thus able to create a perfect balance. A perfumed nose highlighting ripeness. Intense stone fruit flavours with good acidity and a hint of honeysuckle.
