Productinformation
Vincent Durrieu is the fifth generation of the family to work the estate and continue the very traditional Burgundian methods. And it is a noble tradition. Domaine Potinet-Ampeau is one of the few domains that makes wine to age and keeps its vintages in its own cellars to allow them to age properly before release.
A rare case, a producer withholding his wines until they come into their best period. Great!
''Charmes'' or ''Les Charmes'' is one of Meursault's largest and best-known Premier Cru vineyards. Located on the southern side of a lower slope of the Côte d'Or, with top climates Perrieres above it and Genevrieres on the northern border.
The rocky, calcareous soil is thin and well-drained, making it one of the best terroirs in the Côte de Beaune. The layer of limestone is fractured this helps the vines develop deep and complex root systems.
The slope of Charmes is relatively gentle, nowhere near as steep as, say, Perrieres. Yet the slope is enough to take advantage of the morning sun and protect against the bright afternoon sun. This perfect combination of warm and cool influences allows for a long, slow ripening that allows the grapes to develop rich complex flavours without losing their acidity.
This Charmes is medium gold in colour, time has integrated the oak beautifully. In the nose, rich citrus notes with light biscuit and nutty aromas. On the palate distinctly fruity, clear oak notes but with lively acids that give this wine a sharp tension.
