Productinformation
Le Gréal is the flagship and highlight of the estate, a unique wine that has built a loyal following for its decadent, regal style. The 2021 vintage deviates from the norm. Normally, 100% whole bunches are used to make this wine; for the 2021, 90% is destemmed.
As a result, it feels less massive, is juicier, brighter and more balanced than its predecessors. Still, the distinctive spicy notes due to the 10% whole cluster Guillaume kept in the blend are clearly recognisable. According to Guillaume, this vintage recalls a style last encountered in the 1990s.
The wine may deviate from the standard but it is certainly no less. It is a delicious wine that should age fantastically despite its leaner style. One thing that remains constant is the provenance of the fruit: 90% comes from the acclaimed Le Méal plot, 10% from Les Gréffieux, on the slopes of Hermitage, from vines dating back to the 1920s. A small amount of Marsanne between the Syrah adds freshness and softens the tannins.
