Productinformation
This Macon Milly-Lamartine is made from plots in the towns of Berzé La Ville and Milly-Lamartine.
In Berzé, the plot is 1.14ha, is 375-415m above sea level with a slope of 25-30% with western orientation. In Milly, the plot is 1.69ha, on medium to steep slopes, averaging 350m above sea level and with northern and eastern orientation. The vines are on average 17 years old. In both plots, the soil is clay-limestone.
The grapes are harvested by machine at different times because the grapes from Berzé and Milly ripen differently. They are therefore harvested and vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of +/-18°C. Wild native yeasts are used for this and the MLF is spontaneous and complete. The wine matures for 9 months in tank on the lees (lie) without racking or batonnage. The wine is assembled and bottled in the summer after harvest.
2023 was marked by even higher temperatures than in 2022, especially in spring, early summer and the first half of September. The harvest began in a heatwave on 7 September and ended in more pleasant conditions on 21 September.
Rainfall was regular and sufficient for the vines, but caused greater disease pressure. The harvest was abundant, healthy and with good ripeness.
The style of the wines is similar to 2022: full and flattering, think lemon peel and white peach, despite the hot summer it retained a lovely freshness.
