As a 22-year-old, Lorraine Senard Pereira took over the estate from her father in 2000. 2002 white was her first independent harvest, followed by the reds in 2005. Indeed, her wines do differ from those of her father, Philippe Senard. Today, those wines are markedly softer and more harmonious. Today, Comte Senard once again offers the ample assurance of a true high-class Burgundy.
Lorraine Senard produces about six grands crus from the Corton hillside, of which the monopole Clos de Meix, with 1.64 ha, offers the highlight result.
This cuvée in a tribute to founder Jules Senard. The fruit comes from 30-year-old vines in several lieux-dits scattered throughout the village: : Les Bruyeres, les Boutières, LesMorais, Les Caillettes and les Nujots.
The result is a wonderful expression of Aloxe's terroir. Partly due to fermentation with part whole bunches, this wine shows considerably more structure and concentration than other regional wines. The wine is aged for 14 months in oak, 40% of which is new oak.
Attractive dark ruby colour with pleasant nose with red fruit but also vanilla, liquorice, nuts and crème de cassis. On the palate it gains power, persistently fruity and with a long finish.
