Productinformation
Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard is currently managed by Caroline Lestimé, who also runs her négociant business alongside this domain. Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard manages 9 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the Chassagne-Montrachet region. Caroline produces wine in the same way as her father, although we can see changes recently. In particular, the vineyards are worked in a biodynamic way. The wines have a classic character and have no formatting. The definition of a great Burgundy producer.
Tucked away at the foot of Le Montrachet (north) and west bordering Criots-Batard is the small vineyard Blanchot-Dessus (1.17ha). The location, although the vineyard is relatively flat, is perfect. The soil consisting of slabs of limestone marble drains well, providing water stress. The best Blanchot-Dessus wines are not inferior to the wines from Criots-Batard.
Jean-Noël Gagnard has a small plot of 0.13ha. The wine has a bright colour with pale green tones. Blanchot, as always, gives a richer style, lime blossom and ripe fruit but the bouquet is softer than Caillerets - with a buttery texture. Essential acidity adds tension and energy. The wine is very accessible when young but will show a wonderful evolution with time.
Not to be confused with Blanchot Dessous(1.86ha), these vines are on deeper richer soil and labelled as basic Chassagne.
