Vincent Durrieu is the fifth generation of the family to work the estate and continue the very traditional Burgundian methods. And it is a noble tradition. Domaine Potinet-Ampeau is one of the few domains that makes wine to age and keeps its vintages in its own cellars to allow them to age properly before release.
A rare case, a producer withholding his wines until they come into their best period. Great.
Interest in Aligoté is growing fast. This wine is gooey, trendy and a little unusual. Whereas most Aligoté is drunk young, Vincent Durrieu lets this wine age like his other wines. The ageing gives the wine secondary and tertiary flavours and aromas. Besides and fresh fruity bouquet (apple, lemon, grapefruit), this wine has notes of flowers, caramelised nuts, spiciness and a slight creaminess reminiscent of custard. There is enough acidity to balance all these flavours.
With good reason, Aligoté is increasingly used as an inexpensive alternative to Burgundy's number one white grape.
