Productinformation
Clos Saint-Jean is a Premier Cru vineyard located on the hill above just above the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Both excellent white and red wines are produced here. But it is Clos Saint-Jean's red Premier Cru wines in particular that stand out for their rich, ripe character despite their often lighter colour.
The lieu-dit Clos Saint Jean occupies just over 5ha on the eastern slope of the Côte d'Or and is surrounded by other well-known 1er cru vineyards such as; Les Chaumées, Les Vergers and Les Caillerets.
The hill above Clos Saint-Jean is occupied by a large quarry, which leaves a clear mark on the terroir. The soil consists of pebbles and the limestone found in most of the Côte d'Or. The topsoil consists of fragments of this limestone and a deep-coloured red clay.
