Since Jean-Pierre Cournut took over the business from his father in 1993, the estate has been revitalised and the wines are among the very best in the region. The wines are bottled in the Château's old 15th-century cellars.
2022 was a great vintage for Cournut, more precise and terroir-driven. Harvesting occurred between Aug. 25 and 31, and yields were more generous than 2021. Extraction time for red wines was increased from 17 to 19 days to 25 to 28 days. Bottling took place in February 2024.
La Boudriotte premier cru is a small vineyard, gently sloping, east facing and located just southeast of the village of Chassagne. Both white and red wines are produced here. Since La Boudriotte is one of more than 20 lieu-dits of the better-known Morgeot premier cru, the wines of La Boudriotte may also have Morgeot on their label.
In the nose, lots of dark berries but also spice, pepper and earthy notes. The flavors are fairly slim yet with great body and powerful with a slightly rustic and firm finish. Wine is approachable in its youth but can certainly last for years to come.
