Productinformation
The vineyards where the Pinot Noir grapes are harvested are distributed between Verzenay and Verzy in the Grande Montagne de Reims. These Grand Cru communes have very calcareous soils with a north-north-east orientation. This creates a somewhat tighter steely style wine from the pinot noir.
The vines average 30 years old and have been biodynamically farmed since 2006 with certification from 2013.
For this cuvée, 70% of vinification is done in used wooden barrels with batonnage, which also includes partial (30%) malolactic fermentation. The remainder goes on tanks, mostly iron with enamel. Plots are vinified separately and later assembled. For this wine, Godmé uses some 35% reserve wine from 2008-2010 and 65% from base vintage 2011.
After bottling, this wine has been 'sur lattes' for at least 60(!) months. Dosage is less than 4 g/ltr.
The result is impressive! A robust style with steely fraicheur, firm structure and a very light oxidative note, green apple, citrus and nutty. Top notch pinot noir! Energetic wine with bite.
