Productinformation
Winemaker Marie-Ange Robin is the fourth generation of winemakers in the family. It was her father Guy who, plot by plot, bought and planted Chablis vineyards in the 1950s and 1960s - at the time, many winemakers left Chablis because viniculture in this cold region was too difficult. But it was Marie-Ange who took the winery to great heights.
Domaine Guy Robin boasts a rich, if not the richest, collection of old vines. About 80% of the wine from the vines - spread across five grand crus and four premier crus are 'Vieilles Vignes'.
These old vines, and traditional vinification methods ensure that there are few Chablis wines with as much character, concentration and complexity as Marie-Ange's wines. The wines are across the board; seductive, rich and unctuous.
In not only the largest with 26.96ha but also the grand cru with the best quality in breadth. It was the first vineyard planted by the monks. It is not for nothing that Les Clos is often served last in tastings with several Chablis grand crus. The soil is compact white clay with small marl stones. Full-bodied, sultry, expressive: 'Les Clos' is the reigning queen of Chablis. The family's older vines (0.17ha) are in the middle of this legendary grand cru.
The orientation is southwest What makes Les Clos so special is its exceptional flavour intensity without the wine feeling heavy or unwieldy. It is just white fruit and not the yellow plum that other warmer sites sometimes display with perfect minerality.
